Earth Observation & Geospatial Analysis: from satellite to end-user
This Crash Course has the goal of providing the participants with knowledge in Earth Observation, from satellite to image to information delivery with application to agriculture and biodiversity. You will learn about remote sensing techniques, geospatial analysis, GIS, Big Data, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and all the potential value of these technologies for Earth applications.

Specially designed to equip you with in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge about Earth Observation and applied AI and geospatial analysis. It goes from satellite missions and business applications to remote sensing, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Big Data, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence in geospatial data analysis. You will learn how to work with practical applications on Quantum GIS, PyCharm, Land Use/Land Cover (LULC) mapping, classification, and change detection. This course is for you if you want to support the decision-making process with accurate information about the status quo of societal development. In the end, you are encouraged to present a personal or team project to a real stakeholder (Humbitec) which will evaluate it and mentor you on how to proceed with the project. It’s a unique opportunity to make a good impression on this company.

The students will get technical and business knowledge about

  • how we observe and measure the Earth
  • how satellite data is used alongside other forms of measurement
  • how to conduct analysis using a range of different EO data
  • how optical EO data is used in a range of scientific, policy, and decision-making areas
  • how to apply EO for agrobiodiversity
